Drones: The Good and the Potentially Bad!

How are drones disrupting business, the military, and services like search and rescue?

Drones are disrupting business in many ways, from photography to warfare, drones are being used in many different ways.

Warfare is one of the scariest for multiple reasons, military drones can be used from 5,500 miles away. They can stream almost live footage from such a far distance and carry guns and bombs. There are some good things like no soldiers on our side will die but that is about it.

Using drones for search and rescue is one of the bright sides of drones. Drones can travel long distances quickly, which means it is very efficient at searching for people.

How are drones impacting the legal landscape?

The legal area of drones is complicated. Many people think drones are dangerous and should have regulations about who can use them and how they are used. Others think drones should be regulated but not strictly and that drones should be allowed to the general public.

There are also wars, when a drone kills someone is it the drone’s or the pilot’s fault? This is a big debate and lots of people have mixed opinions but overall it is split. This is challenging because figuring out what laws everyone will agree to is challenging.

What are some of the ethical issues that come with drones?

I think there are two main ethical issues, one is trauma from drone warfare and the other is privacy.

When it comes to war with drones many people don’t know that the trauma caused is the same or worse than being on the battleground. Since the pilot sees everything, kills people, then just gets up and makes the 30-minute drive back home. This is a problem since the line between normal and war life blured.

Lots of people value their privacy a lot and drones seem to make people feel their privacy is being violated. Since drones can fly high in the sky and spy on people with cameras it makes sense some would be wary. There are not many regulations about this, there are some but not many and I think many people still fell unsafe.
